In Season

A person finds joy in giving an apt reply– and how good is a timely word! Proverbs 15:23

I had a post set to go but thought about this season we are all in together.  It would be very easy for us to give our attention to the bad news of the who, the what, and the how many of this coronavirus situation.  The result of that is fear.  But, in the midst of this unprecedented time we are all living in, let’s look to the hills from where our help comes from.  Let’s delight in our God and find peace.

We have a choice in the matter.  We can choose to consider fear, or we can choose to consider our God.  Our God is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  He is not surprised, and he is not unmoved.  He is also willing and able to keep us.  So, here are some scriptures to get us started.  Let’s feast!

Taste and see that the LORD is good; blessed is the one who takes refuge in him Psalm 34:8

The name of the LORD is a fortified tower; the righteous run to it and are safe. Proverbs 18:10

You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast, because they trust in you. Isaiah 26:3

I was young and now I am old, yet I have never seen the righteous forsaken or their children begging bread. Psalm 37:25

But you, Lord, are a compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness. Psalm 86:15

For You, O Lord, are kind and forgiving, rich in loving devotion to all who call on You. Psalm 86:5

The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion. Psalm 103:8

The LORD is gracious and righteous; our God is full of compassion. Psalm 116:5

The LORD is gracious and compassionate, slow to anger and abounding in loving devotion. Psalm 145:8

No harm befalls the righteous, but the wicked are filled with trouble. Proverbs 12:21

The fear of the LORD leads to life, that one may rest content, without visitation from harm. Proverbs 19:23

1Those who live in the shelter of the Most High will find rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 This I declare about the LORD: He alone is my refuge, my place of safety;

he is my God, and I trust him. 3 For he will rescue you from every trap and protect you from deadly disease.  4 He will cover you with his feathers.  He will shelter you with his wings. His faithful promises are your armor and protection.  5 Do not be afraid of the terrors of the night, nor the arrow that flies in the day.  6 Do not dread the disease that stalks in darkness, nor the disaster that strikes at midday.  7 Though a thousand fall at your side, though ten thousand are dying around you, these evils will not touch you.

8 Just open your eyes, and see how the wicked are punished. 9 If you make the LORD your refuge, if you make the Most High your shelter, 10 no evil will conquer you; no plague will come near your home. 11 For he will order his angels to protect you wherever you go.  12 They will hold you up with their hands so you won’t even hurt your foot on a stone.  13 You will trample upon lions and cobras; you will crush fierce lions and serpents under your feet!

14 T he LORD says, “I will rescue those who love me.  I will protect those who trust in my name.  15 When they call on me, I will answer; I will be with them in trouble.  I will rescue and honor them.  16 I will reward them with a long life and give them my salvation.”  Psalm 91
